More from 'The Trouble With Pixies', a little bit later in the story than last week's excerpt.

'Well, I can't see them.'

At this, Hattie turned her head to glare at him. 'Well of course you can't. You see my eyes? See how they're different colours? Well, regard them as being like 3D glasses.'

'3D glasses?'

'Yes. When things - creatures like these pixies - want to become invisible to the naked human eye, only people with eyes like mine can still see them properly. Okay, the 3D analogy was a bit crap but you understand what I'm saying?'

  2. Definitely gives a sense of the character's personality. :-)

  3. Funny that she gave a description and called it crap all in the same snippet. I agree with T.M. - says a lot about the character.

  4. Somehow this explains a lot about David Bowie... Nice sequence, and Hattie comes across very well.

    1. Yes, we all know he can see things us mere mortals can't see... :D

  5. LOL! I love the last line, and the description was not crappy. It was a perfect analogy for our culture and like the others say: speaks volumes about her character. And I like what it says!

  7. I KNEW I got the wrong kind of eyes. I want the Pixie-Seeing eyes, too! Perhaps I can bring mine back for an exchange.

  9. I like your heroine already. Very spunky. She sounds like someone I wouldn't mind hanging out with.

  10. Gayle I love the way your mind works. It's completely demented! This one is on my TBR list.

  11. Nice snippet! So heterochromia gives a kind of second sight, or at least the ability to see through magic?

  12. Guess she doesn't have to pay out for the special specs at the 3D film showing then? :D
